Joe Gallivan

There seems to be a thing with people (not everybody) who put out your CDs
not to pay you. They avoid proper contracts and then after the CD is out, avoid
us. I think that the current music business doesn't work for people like me
who are trying to make new music that is away from their ideas of what sells and
all that while we have no problems with audiences who like what we do very
much. We tried small labels, but in the end they don't pay and really don't
promote the music preferring a small profit. Even when we made the CDs,
distribution was a problem and I for one, can't spend my day chasing money and
people
while neglecting my music. There seems to be only one answer and that is to put
our music up for free download and hope you will enjoy it enough to either
send us a few dollars and/or network with us by helping us connect with people
in
your area so that we can come and do a concert which is what we really do:
play for people. Mindscapes: Charles Austin is a creative artist
who has slipped through the cracks of the "music industry" yet even at an
advanced age is able to keep his skills together as a multi-instrumentalist
practicing many hours daily while waiting to be called to perform. Hopefully one
doesn't have to be a musician to hear that his lines and melodies are unique
onto him drawing from diverse sources and built in a personal and fluid way. A
master of many jazz styles, he a forged a music from ethnic musics combined with
a depth only a mature musician with Memphis roots and a thirst for knowledge can
even begin to create. This CD originally recorded in 1973 still sounds fresh and
vital and you all deserve to hear it. What does Charles Austin
deserve?--------certainly not infamy.
